GOOD FOOD AS A PUBLIC SERVICE
It’s pretty simple. Healthy food is a basic necessity for all of us, not a luxury. And just as we have done for other basic needs – education, public transportation, child care, drinking water – we need a new public service that makes healthy and sustainable food an easy and affordable option for all.
Want to know more about why this is needed and how it works?

FROM PLEA TO PRACTICE
Public Food not only puts this idea of food as a public service on the social and political agenda, but puts it directly into practice. We do this on the one hand as an action agency through campaigns, a think tank public food sector, and by connecting residents, doctors, farmers and scientists to our mission. And on the other hand, we are a non-profit social enterprise and run Mensa Mensa – a public service for affordable good food in Rotterdam.

MENSA MENSA
Mensa Mensa is a vibrant canteen where anyone can eat or take away a nutritious meal for any budget, as well as a public kitchen – the Mealprep kitchen – where neighbors come together to cook a healthy weekly menu to take home, a training center with workshops on nutrition and health, a children’s restaurant, and a learning workplace for “cooks for the 21st century.
With Mensa Mensa as a working example, we show the government that and how it is possible to shape food as a public service.
